Metal Abutment Flashing for Asphalt Roofing (Counter-Flashing)

The abutment flashing for asphalt and roll roofing is a specialized protective profile designed to seal the junctions connecting flat or sloped roofs with vertical walls, parapets, and chimneys.

Due to the nature of bituminous coverings, the waterproofing membrane is often turned up onto the wall. This flashing is installed over that junction as a protective apron (counter-flashing). It prevents the roofing material from peeling away from the vertical surface, protects the bitumen from the destructive effects of UV radiation, and eliminates water ingress behind the roofing membrane.

Design Features:

• Reglet Installation (Flange A): The upper horizontal bend is engineered to be inserted into a pre-cut groove (reglet/chase) in the facade wall and subsequently sealed. This redirects water flowing down the wall, preventing it from getting behind the apron.
• Wide Protective Screen (Flange B): The vertical part of the profile completely covers the turned-up edge of the roofing material, securing it in place and protecting it from mechanical damage and thermal deformation.
• Deflecting Drip Edge (Flange C): The lower part of the flashing features a distinct angled projection with a 10 mm protective hem. This shape works as a drip edge, throwing rainwater well away from the vulnerable corner seam directly onto the roof slope.
• Material Variety: Manufactured from galvanized steel, stainless steel, and polymer-coated metal (Polyester, PURal, PVC).
