Concealed Metal Abutment Flashing (Concealed Apron)
The concealed abutment flashing (base apron) is a hidden accessory within the roof's waterproofing system. It is installed beneath the roof covering (metal tiles, corrugated sheets) at the intersections where roof slopes meet vertical surfaces, such as walls, parapets, chimneys, and ventilation shafts.
Unlike the exterior flashing, which serves primarily a decorative and basic protective purpose, the concealed apron acts as the main water-collection channel. It intercepts any water that bypasses the outer flashing or penetrates the roof gap, safely draining it down to the eaves, completely preventing the roof framing and insulation from getting wet.
Design Features:
- Concealed Installation: The element is integrated directly into the roofing assembly during the batten installation stage, providing an invisible yet highly reliable waterproofing solution for the most vulnerable roof junctions.
- Vertical Barrier (Flange B): The tall vertical wall fits tightly against the facade or chimney, protecting the abutment from capillary action and snow accumulation. The top bend (flange A) adds extra rigidity to the wall connection.
- Water-Collection Flange (Flange C): The wide horizontal section is laid onto the roof slope underneath the sheet metal, forming a dependable metal channel to drain hidden leaks and condensation.
- Protective Hem: The lower edge of the sloped flange features a 10 mm hem. This guides the water flow, preventing it from spreading out sideways, and provides the component with necessary longitudinal rigidity.
- Durability: Manufactured from high-quality galvanized or stainless steel, as well as polymer-coated steel (PE, PURal, PVC), ensuring maximum corrosion protection in hidden, damp areas.
