Roof Safety Elements

Roof Safety Elements are a set of structures designed to ensure the safety of people moving on the roof and to prevent accidents related to falling snow, ice, or persons from a height. The installation of these elements is not only a matter of common sense but also a requirement of building codes for many types of buildings.

SIA "Akvilon" offers a full range of safety elements, including snow guards, roof and facade ladders, and safety barriers (railings). We provide both the supply of components and professional installation.

Tubular snow guards on a roof

Snow Guards

Snow guards are critically important elements that prevent the sudden, avalanche-like sliding of large masses of snow and ice from pitched roofs. This simple and effective solution protects people, vehicles, and building elements (gutters, lower roof sections) from damage.

We offer two main types of snow guards:

  • Tubular Snow Guards: The most reliable and versatile type. They consist of brackets attached to the roof structure and two rows of tubes. They allow snow to pass through gradually, preventing the formation of a large snowdrift. Suitable for roofs made of metal tiles, standing seam (including Classic), and profiled sheets.
  • Angled (Bracket) Snow Guards: A more economical option made from sheet metal. Primarily intended for roofs with a low pitch and in regions with moderate snow loads. SIA Akvilon manufactures and installs angled snow guards made of galvanized steel or polymer-coated steel (matching the roof color).

Benefits of installing snow guards:

  • Reduced risk of injury and property damage from falling snow.
  • Protection of the gutter system from deformation and breakage.
  • Prevention of damage to the roofing material and facade elements.
  • Simplification and increased safety during roof maintenance and repair in winter.

Facade ladder with safety cage

Roof and Facade Ladders

Ladders provide safe access to the roof and its elements (chimneys, antennas, ventilation outlets) for maintenance and repair. They can also serve as part of a fire safety system, providing an evacuation route or access for rescuers.

  • Facade Ladders: Attached to the building wall. Allow safe ascent from the ground to the eaves or parapet level. Can be equipped with curved guardrails (safety cage) for additional safety.
  • Roof Ladders: Installed directly onto the roof slope. Provide safe movement up and down the roof. Attached to the roof battens through the roofing material using special brackets and seals.

Specifications:

  • Material: Durable steel with weather-resistant coating.
  • Colors: Main colors available according to the RR catalog (except RR40-45).
  • Section Lengths: Standard lengths 2700mm, 3300mm, 4200mm.
  • Bracket Spacing: Recommended maximum bracket spacing - 2000mm.
  • Complete System: We provide a full system package – ladder sections, wall and roof brackets, guardrails, fasteners.

Roof safety barrier (railing)

Safety Barriers (Roof Railings)

Safety barriers (roof railings) are permanent structures installed along the roof perimeter (or on specific sections) to prevent people from falling during maintenance or repair work. Their installation is mandatory for multi-story buildings (according to regulations, typically for heights >12m) and recommended for any building with an accessible or regularly maintained roof.

  • Construction: Consist of vertical posts and horizontal rails. Supplied in standard 3-meter sections, including all necessary brackets and fasteners.
  • Compatibility: Designed for installation on various types of roofing materials, including standing seam, profiled sheets, and metal tiles.

Professional Installation of Safety Systems

Proper installation of roof safety elements is key to their reliable performance and compliance with standards. Installation errors can lead to roof damage or, more dangerously, failure of the safety system at a critical moment.

SIA "Akvilon" offers professional installation of all types of roof safety systems: snow guards, roof and facade ladders, and safety railings. Our specialists will ensure secure fastening of the structures, taking into account the specifics of your roof and adhering to all technical requirements.

Standards and Responsibility

Roof safety elements are considered high-risk products, as their failure can lead to serious consequences. Their design, manufacturing, and installation must comply with strict European and national standards:

  • Load Calculation: Snow guards must be designed for the maximum snow load specific to the region (according to EN 1991-1-3). Ladders and railings must withstand operational loads (according to EN ISO 14122).
  • Fastening Reliability: Special attention is paid to the strength and type of fasteners, which must be compatible with the roof structure and tested for appropriate loads.
  • Certification: For safety elements placed on the EU market, CE marking and a Declaration of Performance (DoP) are often required, confirming compliance with harmonized standards.

Choosing and installing certified safety systems by professionals is the key to your safety and compliance with building regulations.

Selection and Installation of Safety Systems

Choosing the right safety elements and ensuring their reliable installation is a responsible task. Our specialists can help select the optimal set of snow guards, ladders, and railings for your property and calculate the required quantities. Standard kits can be purchased in our e-shop.
