Roof Access Hatches
A roof access hatch is a structure designed to provide safe and convenient access to the roof for maintenance (inspection, repair, chimney cleaning), and also for use as an emergency exit in case of fire. Glazed models (skylight hatches) can additionally serve as a source of natural light.
SIA "Akvilon" manufactures roof hatches in standard sizes (800x1000 mm) as well as custom sizes specified by the customer. We offer various designs for integration with different types of roofing materials.
Types and Application
Our roof hatches are designed for installation on pitched roofs with various types of coverings. Depending on the roofing material and functional requirements, we offer:
- Standard (non-insulated) hatches: Suitable for cold attics and roofs where thermal insulation of the opening is not required.
- Hatches with upstands for specific roof types: We produce models with ready-made flanges ("upstands") adapted for installation on bitumen (flexible) roofs, metal profile roofs (corrugated sheets, metal tiles), or standing seam roofs. This simplifies installation and increases the tightness of the junction.
- Glazed hatches: Equipped with impact-resistant glass (or other transparent material), they provide natural light to the under-roof space. Ideal for attic floors.
- Custom hatches: Square, arched, or other shapes and sizes according to your project.
Construction and Features
Our hatches are designed considering requirements for strength, watertightness, and durability:
- Strength: The hatch frame is reinforced with a metal strip, allowing it to support human weight without deformation when accessing the roof. The lid handle is made of 4 mm thick metal strip.
- Watertightness: The joints of the frame and lid elements are mechanically seamed (folded), ensuring reliable protection against leaks.
- Water Drainage: The oval shape of standard hatches facilitates easy water runoff and prevents "puddling" on the lid.
- Thermal Insulation: When installing hatches in heated attic spaces, thermal insulation of the hatch box is mandatory to prevent heat loss (in accordance with CPR requirements for energy economy).
- Safety (for glazed hatches): Glazed hatches intended for frequent use must be equipped with impact-resistant glass for operational safety.
Materials and Custom Sizes
We offer hatches made from various materials to ensure compatibility with your roof and the required service life:
| Material |
Advantages |
| Galvanized Steel (ZN) |
Basic, reliable, and economical option. |
| Polymer-Coated Steel (PE) |
Allows matching the hatch color to the roof (according to the RAL catalog), provides additional corrosion protection. |
| Stainless Steel |
Maximum durability and corrosion resistance, requires no painting. |
Standard size: 800x1000 mm.< /p>
Custom sizes and shapes: We manufacture hatches of any other dimensions and configurations to your order.
Certification: Our products comply with production process control requirements (Certificate No. 1805/2011).
Importance of Proper Installation
Installing a roof hatch requires precision and adherence to technology. It is necessary to properly prepare the opening, install the box strictly level, and secure it firmly. A critical step is the waterproofing of the hatch junction with the roofing material and vapor barrier from the inside (especially for insulated roofs). Incorrect installation can lead to leaks and heat loss. We recommend entrusting the installation to professional roofers or using our installation services.
