Chimney Caps
Water and snow infiltration into the flue, gradual destruction of the brick masonry due to freezing moisture, bird nesting, and wind downdrafts causing backdraft are the primary threats to any chimney or ventilation system. A chimney cap (also referred to as a rain cap, hood, or flue cover) completely resolves these engineering challenges. It effectively seals off the flue outlet, shields internal channels from environmental impacts, and provides a polished, visually complete architectural finish to the roof structure.
The manufacturing company SIA Akvilon independently designs and fabricates sheet metal components of any complexity. We produce both standard protective designs and custom configurations tailored to individual blueprints, sketches, or technical designs provided by our clients.
Key Technical Functions
A properly specified and installed chimney cap resolves a comprehensive range of engineering and technical challenges:
- Weather Protection: Fully prevents direct access of rain and snow into the chimney and ventilation flues, eliminating moisture saturation, freezing, and subsequent cracking of the internal walls.
- Blockage Prevention: Eliminates the ingress of outdoor debris, leaves, and bird nesting into the flues, preserving the system's designed airflow capacity.
- Aerodynamic Stabilization: The cap's geometry prevents wind-induced downdrafts entering the flue, minimizing the risk of backdraft under all climatic conditions.
- Fire Safety (Spark Arresting): The assembly for solid-fuel systems can be equipped with a protective spark arrestor mesh, reducing the risk of combustible roofing material ignition from hot escaping particles.
Product Range Overview
Our manufacturing plant provides several specialized design modifications adapted for various heating systems and architectural demands:
- Akvilon Classic: Traditional four-sided sloped geometry, suitable for the majority of standard multi-flue ventilation and chimney blocks.
- Akvilon Modern: A sleek design with sharp rectangular geometry and a flat top plate, engineered for contemporary buildings in minimalist or high-tech architectural styles.
- For Ceramic Chimneys: A specialized modification featuring a mounting base engineered for secure clamping onto round ceramic flue liners.
- Arched (Semi-Circular): A design with a smooth curved top arch that facilitates smooth snow sliding and rapid rainwater drainage.
- Custom Engineered Projects: Design and assembly of large-scale, multi-duct, or complex geometric metal units based on your technical sketches.
Construction, Materials, and Dimensions
All units at the SIA Akvilon plant are manufactured according to strict production standards, ensuring long-term operational durability.
- Traditional Seamed Assembly: Elements of the units are fabricated and assembled manually. All structural joints are locked via standing seams without using rivets in primary assemblies. Unlike rivet assemblies, which eventually loosen from wind vibration and rust around punctured holes, a standing seam guarantees permanent structural tightness, requires zero maintenance, and lasts for the entire lifespan of the roof cladding.
- Thermal Protection for Heating Flues: For chimneys serving heating appliances (stoves, fireplaces, boilers), an insulated stainless steel heat shield is integrated into the system. It absorbs the thermal load and aggressive condensate impact, protecting the outer body from heat damage and burn-through.
- Structural Materials:
- High-strength galvanized steel (zinc coating thickness Zn 0.45 – 0.7 mm);
- Steel with protective polymer coating (glossy polyester PE, matte UltraMat / PeMat in RAL catalog colors);
- Stainless steel (special industrial grades for high-temperature environments);
- Other metals upon request (copper, titanium-zinc).
- Available Dimensions: We manufacture units in custom sizes with no standard limitations — from small ventilation outputs to massive multi-flue industrial blocks. The support legs are fabricated from rigid steel flat bars of 4x20 mm.
- Certification: All products are certified in compliance with Factory Production Control Standard No. 1805/2011.
Custom Units and Masonry Protection
In addition to protective chimney covers, secondary elements are frequently required to achieve complete sealing of the chimney top layout:
Masonry Top Flashing (Collar / Frame): A finished metal element mounted on the top horizontal course of the chimney brickwork directly underneath the cover. It protects the upper edge of the masonry from moisture absorption and weathering decay.
Roof Penetration Flashing (Apron): A system of metal flashing plates and boxes installed at the base of the chimney where it intercepts the roof cladding to ensure absolute waterproofing of the roof passage and prevent leaks inside the building. We fabricate these elements strictly to match your roof pitch angles and the specific dimensions of the chimney block.
Order Processing Procedure
To ensure that the finished product precisely matches the specifications of your chimney, you can utilize the following options:
- Option 1. Via the Website Form: Send a request through the form, specifying two core parameters of the chimney flue in millimeters: Width (W) and Length (L), along with the chosen metal type. During production, we automatically apply the required technical tolerance for the support legs (W+15 mm, L+5 mm).
- Option 2. Via the Order Form: You can download the official technical order form, fill in the dimensions according to the diagram, and check the required materials, RAL color, and options.
Send completed forms, specifications, sketches, blueprints, or site photographs of the chimney to our engineering department using the following methods:
- By Email: Send your project layouts and contact details to info@akvilon.lv. We will promptly prepare a detailed cost estimate.
- Via WhatsApp: Message us on our business WhatsApp at +371 26336845. You can submit your sketch, material list, or site photo directly.
